Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project Update Week beginning 31 August What’s happening this week? Marine works Marine works continue at the future Transition Berth. Crews have completed piling for the outer dolphin structure and installed two nearshore piles for the future linkspan bridge connection at the southern end of the berth. A total of 17 piles have been installed so far. This week, piling will continue for the future linkspan bridge and long dolphin structure. In Shakespeare Bay, a jack-up barge and large crawler crane have been assembled ahead of mobilisation to the Transition Berth area. Once in position, the jack-up barge will provide a stable working platform to support upcoming marine construction activities. Residents may notice increased activity in Shakespeare Bay as final preparations are completed before the barge is moved into place. Piling for the outer dolphin structure at the future Transition Berth has been completed. Piling is underway near shore for the future Transition Beth Linkspan. A temporary yellow floating boom has been installed around the work area to help contain sediment and protect water quality in the harbour. A jack-up barge and large crawler crane were successfully assembled and mobilised to the Transition Berth area over the weekend. Together, with the two existing barges, the jack-up barge provides a stable working platform to support ongoing marine construction activities. Landside works Demolition of a section of the No. 1 Long Arm East wharf is underway this week. Construction activity also continues around No. 2 Long Arm, where crews are carrying out geotechnical investigations through the existing wharf structure to better understand the ground conditions below. Removal of the old linkspan dolphin structures is also underway to prepare for future stages of construction. Where possible, materials are being recovered and repurposed for future use. A crane has been mobilised to the No.2 Long Arm construction zone to remove sections of the old linkspan dolphins. HEB Site Office Works Construction of the temporary HEB site office continues beside the Edwin Fox Museum, with crews completing the concrete foundation for the new building. Installation of the main office structure is expected to begin next week. Weekend Work To help maintain progress on key project activities, some construction work may occur on Sundays over the coming weeks. These activities will be coordinated around ferry operations and carried out in accordance with project consent requirements and applicable construction noise limits.
