Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project Update Week beginning 12 October What’s happening this week? Transition Berth This week, crews will install structural steel for the springline dolphin at No. 1 Long Arm East. Construction materials will also be transferred to and from barges within the designated marine construction zone, while pile casing lifts continue. Piling and deck construction for the Transition Berth linkspan bridge will also continue. Temporary scaffolding and access routes are in place so Interislander staff can continue to safely access operational areas while this work is underway. The Transition Berth will provide temporary infrastructure for the existing Interislander ferries while the permanent wharf is built. This will help maintain ferry services and minimise disruption during the redevelopment. Main Berth Work is beginning on temporary staging in the No.2 Long Arm construction area for the main berth. This includes temporary piling. Crews will also remove piles from the former west dolphin structure. Marine activity, including commercial diving work, will take place within the designated marine construction zone. Landside work Construction traffic will continue to access the work sites via the Waitohi Domain access bridge. Lagoon Road will only be used for oversized deliveries, including the 36-metre pile casings. Specialist surveys are being carried out to locate underground utilities and services, helping inform detailed design and future construction works. HEB Site Office Works Fit-out of HEB’s temporary foreshore site office continues this week, with delivery and pedestrian controls remaining in place around the work area. Work will continue over the weekend to ensure the office construction is complete before the first cruise ship arrival on 24 October. Weekend Work To help maintain progress on key project activities, some construction work will occur on Sundays over the coming weeks. These activities will be coordinated around ferry operations and carried out in accordance with project consent requirements and applicable construction noise limits. If you’re around the Waitohi Picton foreshore or town, you may notice activity associated with marine investigations, material deliveries and other project works Want to know more?
