Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project Update Week beginning 24 August What’s happening this week? Marine works Marine works continue at the future Transition Berth. Crews are progressing piling for the outer dolphin structure and nearshore piling for the future linkspan bridge connection at the southern end of the berth. Ten piles have now been installed across the berth works, with further piling planned this week. Crews will also carry out checks of planned pile locations on the seabed to confirm they are clear of any underwater obstructions before future piling activities begin. In Shakespeare Bay, a jack-up barge and large crawler crane have been assembled ahead of mobilisation to the Transition Berth area. Once in position, the jack-up barge will provide a stable working platform to support upcoming marine construction activities. Residents may notice increased activity in Shakespeare Bay as final preparations are completed before the barge is moved into place. Landside works Construction activity continues around No. 2 Long Arm, with crews carrying out geotechnical drilling through the existing wharf structure to gather information about the ground conditions below. Work will also begin on cutting existing linkspan dolphin structures and removing or relocating redundant infrastructure as preparations continue for future stages of the redevelopment. Waitohi Domain The Waitohi Domain access bridge is now operational for construction traffic. Constructed using a section of the old vehicle access bridge, it provides a dedicated and controlled route between HEB’s Waitohi Domain laydown areas and the port construction zone. By separating construction traffic from public areas, the bridge improves site safety while demonstrating the project’s commitment to reusing existing materials. HEB Site Office Works Construction of the temporary HEB site office continues beside the Edwin Fox Museum, with crews building the concrete foundation for the new building. Fencing and temporary traffic management remains in place while these works are undertaken. Weekend Work To help maintain progress on key project activities, some construction work may occur on Sundays over the coming weeks. These activities will be coordinated around ferry operations and carried out in accordance with project consent requirements and applicable construction noise limits. If you’re around the Waitohi Picton foreshore or town, you may notice activity associated with marine investigations, material deliveries and other project works.
