Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project Update

Week beginning 19 October

What’s happening this week?

Transition Berth

At the Transition Berth, crews will complete the final tubular piling at the long dolphin, continue installing precast concrete elements on the outer dolphin, and prepare for precast installation on the spring line dolphin. Piling and deck construction for the Transition Berth linkspan bridge will also continue.

Temporary scaffolding and access routes are in place so Interislander staff can continue to safely access operational areas while this work is underway.

The Transition Berth will provide temporary infrastructure for the existing Interislander ferries while the permanent wharf is built. This will help maintain ferry services and minimise disruption during the redevelopment.

Main Berth

Work is progressing on temporary staging in the No. 2 Long Arm construction area for the Main Berth. This week, divers will assist with pile clearance, a remotely operated vehicle survey of the long arm will begin, and installation of the staging ramp will get underway.

Landside work

Construction traffic continues to access the work sites via the Waitohi Domain access bridge. Lagoon Road will only be used for oversized deliveries, including 36-metre pile casings. Potholing and test-pit investigations will also take place in the Bluebridge area.

HEB Site Office Works

Final fit-out of HEB’s temporary foreshore site office will continue this week, with delivery and pedestrian controls remaining in place around the work area. The team is working to complete the remaining external work ahead of the first cruise ship arrival on 24 October. HEB staff will use alternative parking arrangements when the team moves into the new office, rather than parking on the foreshore.

Weekend Work

To help maintain progress on key project activities, some construction work will take place on Sundays over the coming weeks. This work will be coordinated around ferry operations and carried out in accordance with project consent requirements and applicable construction noise limits. Around the Waitohi–Picton foreshore and town, you may notice activity associated with marine investigations, material deliveries and other project works.
